Responsible for legal advice to the various Sanford affiliates. Identifies and analyzes legal issues, drafting key documents, presenting clear recommendations, and assuring legal compliance. Will handle a variety of diverse legal duties in areas of health care law such as healthcare business transactions, contract review and negotiation, licensure. Reviews draft contracts sent to Sanford by third-party vendors.


General practice with emphasis in employment law preferred. Advise human resources team and operational teams on various employment laws such as the FMLA, ADAAA. Draft employment agreements. Assist with and advise on internal investigations. Reinforces positive contributions and recommends adjustments for improving outcomes. Prepare, draft, and review legal documents, such as wills, deeds, patent applications, mortgages, leases, and contracts. Participates in daily work, including contract activities of the legal department. Demonstrates the ability to speak, write and present clearly. Adapts language, tone, structure, and level of detail to the needs of others. Initiates communication with other individuals or teams to solve shared problems cooperatively. Applies appropriate confidentiality and the sense of urgency in confidential investigation. Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process. Initiates communication with other individuals or teams to solve shared problems cooperatively. Researches organizational and industry examples of similar business cases.

Must be admitted, or eligible for admission to the State Bar of South Dakota or North Dakota depending on location and area of accountability, and additional state(s) when applicable. Graduate of an American Bar Association accredited law school with licensure to practice law in South Dakota, North Dakota or Minnesota are required. If licensed in one State only, must be eligible to register as in-house counsel under other States' rules. Must have at least two years practice experience. General practice with emphasis in transactional or health law related issues preferred.
