Assist researchers and community partners in the design of research studies, including community based participatory research, and analyze research data under moderate direction. Specific tasks may include preparing and giving presentations, grant writing, designing randomization schedules, calculating power/sample size, selection of appropriate statistical methods, analysis of medical research data and preparation of relevant manuscript sections, tables and figures. A working knowledge of cross-sectional, case-control, cohort and randomized clinical trials study designs required. A working knowledge of general linear mixed models, generalized linear models, longitudinal analysis, survival analysis, survey research methods, analysis of surveys and analysis of observational data required. Must be able to work with complex data and assess validity and appropriateness of data analysis methods. Must be able to draw conclusions from analyses and communicate results with researchers and community partners both orally and in writing. Must be able to communicate statistical concepts to researchers and community partners of all levels and backgrounds. Prepare quality figures, tables, statistical methods and results to summarize analyses for journal publications and reports. Interact and consult with researchers and community partners to ensure proper use of statistical methodology and interpretation of results. Demonstrate accountability to provide complete and accurate information to researchers and community partners.

This position will have a particular emphasis in the bioinformatic analysis of genomic data and will therefore be responsible for collaborative efforts within Sanford Research to analyze data, advise on workflows, and prepare data for publication for genomic studies which are being undertaken in the laboratories at Sanford Research. Must be able to analyze genomic data from microarrays, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and other next-generation genomic techniques. Skills must involve quality control of next-generation sequencing results, read alignment, peak calling, transcript alignment and annotation, differential gene expression analysis, and gene network analysis. As such proficiency in bowtie/bwa, macs/spp/peakseq, tophat/cufflinks/star, samtools, bedtools are required. Proficiency in Linux, bash, R/Bioconductor is vital. Experience in perl, java is preferred. Experience building and managing databases is favorable. A strong background in biology is strongly encouraged to ensure proper interfacing with bench scientists and to assist in the “wet lab” job responsibilities. Candidates must be strong at multitasking, proficient communicators, highly organized, and willing to work as part of a team to drive cutting edge research.


Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field, and experience working with the SAS or R software required. Consulting experience highly recommended. Excellent and clear communications skills in English (both verbal and written) required.
